My Reflection ,Week 4

Eventually ,it comes week 4.the last week before our finial exams. Also,It will be my last article in this blog during the time in REW. Looking back again, in the first week, the exams which I felt so nervous ,so anxious about are just in the corner now.Yes, I have to admit that even after these 4weeks I still worried about the exam, however,I know from my heart that I feel more confident now, especially about my speaking skill.

* Listening Skill

*Although I've got a good mark in the IELTS ,at first I found it so hard to do the listening practice in REW ,because of  the note-taking .I 'v never tried to take note while listening before,so it's a kind of blank for me .Fortunately, after the practice in these 4 weeks,I've grabbed some specific skill of taking-note,and in the 2 text-sample practices,I passed both,so now I really feel better about it.Moreover,I plan to listen to the listening document in learning hub to practice more for the coming exam.

*Reading Skill
*I've said in my goals that I love reading, but actually I still feel dizzy and confusing when I try to reading the English materials. However, although reading is hard, the reading exam is OK for me,because during the exam we are not asked to understand every word in the articles, which really save me.hahaha~~~

*Writing Skill
*Wow,here comes the point--writing!Yes,everybody in my class feels weak in this part, but luckily,we got the strategies about how to write a critical response.I felt confused about the structure of the response to 2 articles before,as I said in the reflection in week 3.But now, after Kate's class this afternoon,I finally got the clear structure ,so I just feel alright with it,hoping I can make it in the exam.

*Speaking Skill
*As to speaking,I have to say that practice makes perfect. In these 4 weeks I spent in Australia,I did spoke English as much as I can,and now,I find it's obviously improved.I am finally able to talk to the natives in banks and supermarket.I am preparing my oral presentation at this moment,I have to say it's a challenge for me to do this in front the whole class.I just need some confidence. But I have to try it,and I think I can make it!

That is my reflection for this week, let's pray for a good mark in the coming exams!!!

My Reflection Week 3

Time passes by,no eyes on back.Unconsciously,it's already the end of the 3rd week.I'd like to(or in other word,I have to)share my feeling about this week to you all!

*I have to say that it's a really tiring week, with a lot of practice to do.At the same time, I am looking for a house for me,so the whole thing just makes me exausted...Morever,We had a C.A.T in tuesday, which gave me a sore hand......I hope it's worth a good mark.

*In this week,we've learnt how to write a critical response about two articles which give two opposite view on one topic.I think it a little hard to find the coresponding arguments and the way to organise my own essay by myself.Maybe I need more practice.

*I have to step up my perparation of the oral presentation.I've rented several books from RMIT library about my topic, however,I find it's hard to pick up what I really want......

I hope in next week,I will feel better, not that sleepy, not that tired.

These days, using English phrases are considered cool and sophisticated by young people. Even The Media such as TV station, radio, and commercials are using few words in english for their slogan as well as any other kind of words that are used to attract people attention. In my country, Most broadcaster which radios station are segmented for young generation using a numerous kind of English phrases as it's sound more funky and up to date. Besides, Commercials are using English name for their product because people suggest that it's more ear-cathcy and it comes across to be higher quality, which actually we can't guarantee. Furthermore, parents this recent years started to speak with their toddlers kid in English, it's kind of lifestyle. However, This kind of mindset in my opinion are downgrading the power of the language of my country.

Why I need to learn English? That is a great question that I really have asked myself for many times. At the very beginning,I don't know why I should sit in the classroom, singing the strange songs. After that I know that English is one of my mian subjects, and graduatly,I got used to laern it just to pass my exams, working hard on that to get a beautiful school report card. However,it is until my high school I started to realise that by laerning English can really broaden my horizon, and give me a totally new world.Learning English gives me the opportunity to go out of my country,to get a better knowledge about what I am interested in and to have a experience of living in a different place. And now,I am in Australia,it is more obvious that learning English is so important.I have to this language to communicate with others,to gain information from books ,and to have fun by wacthing English movies.

As English getting aacquisition of control all over the world, the threat  that Chinese might degenerate more and more obvious recently. The overlook of Chinese among the young generation, compared with the overly focus on English ,really deserve our to pay enough attention to. It's time that we should take action to keep our mother tongue spirited.

*Bring Chinese into the advanced education, especially colleges and universities.Urge schools pay much more attention to Chinese ,instead other languages.
*Avoid the use of English,as well as other languages,in official occasion.
*Encourage to organize activities about Chinese classic literature and traditional culture in local schools and communities, such as handwriting playgroup and Chinese speech competition..

My Reflection Of Week 2

Fast or low, anyway, two weeks have passed by.In this week, I've tried some of my stratigies I set before, and my feeling about this week is as the following.

*I'd like to share a good website here ,which may help you guys wiht your listening skill  www.ted.com. listening to one speech here not only can practice your note-taking skill, but can increase our knowleadge about the world ewe are living in.
I've tried to listen to it everyday for 3 days, and I find that really help,so far. So,why don't you have a try?

*I've try to speak more English this week.Everyday after dinner,I just try my best to adhere myself on the chair in the living room, chatting as much as possible with my homestay parents.Fortunately, they don't seems to hate talking with me,and I find it does work!At least,I feel better with my spoken English now.

*In the classes ,this week, I think we were focus on the critical response, generally. After the classes and the homework we've done,I think I've got the outline of this kinda of essay!I really hope I can do it well in the C.A.T next Tuesday!

My Reflection For Week1

This is my first week, first week in Australia, first week living without my family, and, first week in REW.In this special week,I try a lot, getting uesd to a lot and most importantly, thinking a lot.

*Yes,I do worry about the final exam now.Because I just graduated from high school, and I know noting about how is presentation going...so,I admite I am a little bit anxious, just like anxious Alicia.

*In this week,I heard a lot and spoke much English as what I may speak during a whole year when I was in China. That's a good practice,so I will stick to speaking English as much as possible in the future.

*I've learnt how to think critically in Mario's class in this week.Though,I cannot do it very well, but at least I had a try,and as Mario said"That's cool!'

*I met some friends in this class, which makes me know how nice to make friends with people from diferent background. And,it is friends that can make me feel happy in this unfamiliarcountry.

This is my first week,it'a amazing. And I believe I will enjoy the future.

As you know, since the door of China opened, English has become an important part of the life of Chinese. There are rocking number of students start to learn English as their first foriegn lauguage,as well as people who have been working.Undeniably, the impacts of English on Chinese are becoming more and more obvious.
Benefits; As a worldwide-used lauguage, English absolutely has many positive impacts for Chinses to learn.Initially,it can help to start and strengthen the relationship between Chinese ecnomy and foreign ecnomy.Secondly, it gives Chinese people more chances to conmunicate with the outside world. Not only let the world have a better understanding of China, but also let Chinese learn more from other counties.
Drawbacks: Paying too much attention to English can also lead to some negative result, for example, the overlook of Chinese. In most universities in China,English is public lauguage course instead of Chinese.,which result in the degeneration of Chinese skill among the young generation.Additionally, the invasion of western culture which comes with the widely use of English is a big problem in the long term.

My Strategies

After setting my goals in my last post , I earn some encouragement from myself. But I know without efforts to achieve them ,goals would equal to nothing. So, now I have to force myself to come up with some strategies to help me get what I want.

About Listening Skill
I used to think my listening was good, because my ILETS listening mark is 8.0. But now,I cannot take that for granted according to my experience of this week here. So, I give myself some advice following:
1.listening to English broadcast as much as possible, try to understand what presenters are talking about.
2.listening to ILETS textbooks CDs three times a week to get used to academic lectures.
3.Speak to natives ,especially my homestay families, everyday after dinner. And watching TV with them.

About Reading Skill
I like reading Chinese books, so I will force myself to like English books as well. So, I give myself some advice following:
1.Steep in library every lunch time and borrow some book from them ,to enlarge my vocabulary.I will start with novels which can activate my interests and then I will move to some more serious books .
2.Stick to remember 10 new words per week and add them to my vocabulary notebook. In everyday life, I will try to practice this new word.
3.Find some resources about my major on the Internet and read some of them everyday.

About Writing Skill
Writing can be a hard work to every English learner ,but I don't think I cannot master it, if I try my best. So, I give myself some advice following:
!.Read more formal articles in newspaper or books borrowed from libraries , getting familiar with the format of this kind of articles.
2.Sticking to writing blogs a least twice a week, in order to practice my writing skill.
3.Writing at least an article with critical thinking per week after knowing how to write this .

About Speaking Skill
In my opinion, the key of improving my speaking is to speaking more. Practicing makes success. So, I give myself some advice following:
!.Participate actively in tutorial parts of my class, trying to speak more.
2.Don't be shy. Talk as much as possible to natives , and let them correct my pronunciation.
3Speaking is related to listening, so when listening to radio or TV,paying attention to the format of sentences.

My Goals

Just like every ship needs a destenation to  find their way ,everyone who has a dream needs goals to  achieve his or her success. So, for a English learner, it is essential to set goals which suit me best to encourage myself on my way to a higher level of English.

About Listening Skill
Because I am new here, and as everybody known, depart from the strange accent here,Australians speak really fast ,so sometimes I cannot understand what they are talking about, And that may cause some problems which can be avoided before. So my first goal is to get used to what natives takling here. And next ,I will make efforts to let myself  understand academic lectuces, which is my ultimate goal for my listening when I am in REW.

About Reading Skill
Initially, I am glad that I like reading, I mean Chinese books. Ha! But, anyhow, reading is a good habit. So, my goal for reading skill is reading English books, not only novels which I like most, but the academic  books, especially the textbooks about my major.  That means I have to largen my vocabulary.

About Writing Skill
It seems that everybody is afraid of writing .Yes, writing can be hard ,even in our mother lauguage, especially the acdemic paper and critically writing. But I don't think it means we cannot find methords to improve it. And ,I suppose that it shuold start with goals. So my writing goal is to write long articals critically.

About Speaking Skill
I used to be very shy to speak English, and thought my spoken English was rubbish. But after these days' experence of living with natives, I find although sometimes I connot express myself ,English speakers can understand me generally. So my goal for my speaking skillsis to speaking more precisely and pronouncing better.

My Study Style

Today , I got a survey about my study style from James in my class .It shows  I am a  kinaesthetic learner, which probably means that  I should do it by myself, if I need to remember something or try to master a skill. And undeniably,I am exactly that kind of person. When I meet something new I just cannot wait to have a try. For example, when I was taught to cook by my Dad,I just cannot remember how to make the dishes,(although Chinese dishes can be really complicated)untill my Dad gave up and let me do ti on my own.

Now, fortunately, I 've found my study style thanks to the questions in that survey, and then, it's time to find some specific ways for myself which may have a great impact on my learning process.

1.When there is something in the class I can do it by myself, then don't hesitate. Just do it.

2.When I try to remember something, such as the new vocabulary, I should put it in sentences and
practise it in my leisure activitise.

3.When I am learning a new skill, I should take it easy first and work it out by "trial and error".I will encourage myself and say"Don't be afraid, juet have a go !"

Eventually,I hope these advices I give to  myself can give benefits to my future studing!
